Ten Not-So-Tangible Tools for Writers

Writing is real.

Writing is as real as a hot shower, a fresh salad or late afternoon sex. It calms, its energizes, it satisfies. It's a real experience--genuine and authentic--felt in the heart as well as the head. You feel your butt against the chair and your fingers typing, your mind stretching, expanding and then recoiling. When you write with passion, how does your body feel? That's what makes writing real.

Writing is solid like stone. It's fragrant like pine trees. It spills over and out of you and forces you to dig through the dirt to plant new seeds.

Writing feels real and allows you to be real. Writing can help you feel really alive.
