Ten Not-So-Tangible Tools for Writers

Writing is talking

Talk outloud. Talk to yourself. Talk to a tape recorder. Dictate rather than write.

You can visualize readers and talk to them. Writing starts and expands through talk.

Then remember when you write, you are talking from the page. How your writing "speaks" is your "voice". Voice may be the most important element of effective writing. Why? If readers don't like how you speak to them, they won't read. But if your voice draws readers in, they'll want to talk with you and will keep reading.
