Meaning Making: Introductory Episode

Welcome to Meaning Making, a podcast about art making and the process of creating from the MFA Department at California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. The questions central to our lives are also core to our art, and inquiring into those questions advances the artist and the art.

We’ll kick off Episode 1 in conversation with Cindy Shearer, a writer, text/image artist, and curator. Cindy founded the writing and arts programs at CIIS, chairs the Department of Interdisciplinary Arts, and directs the MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts and Writing. She is also publisher for Mission at Tenth.

For us, no two artists are the same, and we think artists have a lot to offer each other. In this series, we'll introduce you to artists who have appeared in our inter-arts journal Mission at Tenth and been part of our MFA program. They share how they make meaning in their work, how conversations with other artists has changed them, and how they continue to grow as people and artists. They've inspired us on Mission at Tenth's pages and in our classrooms. We hope you’ll join us and let them inspire you.
